I recommend running a pump 24/7, but if you wish, you can cut down to 12 hours daily. Some people put their pumps on a timer.
It depends on how many fish you have. More fish = more 02 is needed.

run it as long as there is water that needs to be aerated. Better to keep to much oxygen in the water than to lose fish

Pumps don’t cost that much to run. We always run ours without stopping.
